PROLOGUE

Cerise Annette Sacha Simone Irene Etoile Lepin or, as she preferred to be called, Cassie (for short) was an odd child.  Which, in all honesty wasn't saying much as French mothers considered every child who refused to conform to what was normal and proper "odd".  You see, Cassie had an affinity for spending hours by herself, reading books about science and religion and let's not forget her strange affinity for crystals.

Her mother, Bianca Irene Tatienne Charlotte Hortense Lepin, was a (widow) proper lady and horribly ashamed of her daughter's "improper" pastimes.  It was so unlike a lady to spend time without friends or at least a pet, but Cassie wasn't interested in things that were even remotely normal.

STORY ONE

Two months of searching and they stopped looking altogether.  It didn't make sense to keep looking through the vineyards and the other estates surrounding the property for someone who more-than-likely became the victim of a starving animal.  They found no trace of her whatsoever.  No clothing, no hair, no body, nothing.  It was as if Cassie had vanished without a trace.

Her mother, Madame Lepin was so heartbroken over the disappearance of her only daughter that she only found solace in the arms of Verzenay's most eligible bachelors.  These man took no issue consoling the grieving mother, as it was what was proper and the French were nothing if not proper.

33 years in the future didn't seem far enough, but due to her limited "power source", it would have to do.  She wondered how many of these strange crystals she would need to take her hundreds of years into the future or the past.  It wasn't as if the "beings" who planted the crystals had given her any indication of how many she should use at one time.  Perhaps the short jump had nothing to do with the crystals at all, but more to do with her apprehension to travel so far from her home.

Nothing changed really, the vineyard was still there and well kept, servants (albeit not the same ones) still tended to the crops.  A jump of 33 years was not very remarkable or earth-shattering, Cassie realized with utter disappointment.  In fact, her own mother was probably still alive and withered by age.

The walk from the vineyards to the manor took longer than usual, perhaps the vineyards had gotten larger in her absence or perhaps her passage of time was somewhat skewed.  Possible side effect of jumping through time?  She made a note to record it in her journal.

When she reached the manor, she was pleasantly surprised to see that the house had not changed much since she had technically "been gone" or "missing".  There had been updates to it, to keep it restored, she assumed.  Her mother had always been quite vain about the estate.  She made her way up to the porch and to the door before she stopped, frowning at the entrance to her "home"(?).

What should she do? She wondered to herself.  Should he knock, should she open the door and walk in?  It had been years since she had performed the first jump...even if it felt like mere minutes for her, so much time had passed for them.  To them, she was probably dead it had been so long since she set foot in that house.

It was too strange to knock or even walk in, Cassie decided.  Maybe she should've just gone forward more, maybe she should've used more of the crystals at once, but...

"Je peux vous aider, mademoiselle?" a man asks from behind her and she tenses, chewing her lip nervously before turning around.  The "man" was young with shoulder length golden brown hair and questioning green eyes.  He appeared to be a commoner and in no way related to the "Lepin" name.

"Ou est, Madame Lepin?" Cassie responds, evoking a chuckle from the man.

"Cette folle," he responds, pinching the bridge of his nose and lowering his head a bit before looking back up at her and motioning toward the door and continuing, "dans la maison."

Cassie bites her lip again, refusing to turn back to her childhood home considering her mother was now "the crazy woman" instead of the "beauté exotique" she had been in her youth.

"Je vais obtenir sa," the man responds, trying to be helpful, but Cassie waves her hand.

"Non, non," she responds, face flushing a bright shade of pink from embarrassment, "Je vais aller, merci monsieur."  The man blinks, but otherwise says nothing to Cassie as she rushes off the porch and back toward the vineyards.

It was probably a good idea not to have any contact whatsoever with her mother.
